The North Face was founded in 1966 in San Francisco. Its name evokes the north side of the mountain, the coldest and most unforgiving side. However, its story began at the beach, in the North Beach district of San Francisco. Inspired by a team of hikers, this small shop specialized in mountaineering equipment was born.
With the enthusiasm it aroused, the small shop grew to become a recognized retailer of high-end equipment specialized in climbing and hiking. Two years later, the company moved and began the adventure of designing and manufacturing its own technical clothing and mountaineering equipment.
