Eco-conscious

Eco-conscious?  We have what you need.

More than ever, the environment is a major concern, and rightly so. Consumers now pay a great deal of attention to the origin, as well as the manufacturing, of their equipment or even their clothes.  They are looking for the perfect item, but above all for the most environmentally friendly product possible.

Many brands have identified this need and have taken steps to address it. The industry is changing, and more and more eco-responsible initiatives are emerging. So, companies have now become green conscious.

Whether it is the use of recycled material in various percentages or the means of transportation or production methods, they have become innovative in their efforts to respect the environment.

Industry and the Ocean

It's no secret that the ocean is unfortunately teeming with a lot of plastic.  In bid to diminish its importance, giants like Adidas are teaming up with Parley for the Ocean, or similar organizations, to recover plastics and make new products out of them.

In turn, Adidas and Parley for the Ocean transform plastic waste into high-performance sports equipment made from at least 75% recycled plastic waste and manufactured with low energy consumption.

Plastic bottles at your service!

Many companies use REPREVE technology in the plastic industry, a process that creates polyester fibres from recycled material, including plastic bottles.  Not only are these fibers of phenomenal quality to ensure the longevity of your items, but they also help to prevent a great scourge.  By purchasing products made from REPREVE fibers, you are making a difference.

That's why the O'NEIL brand uses this technology in some of its men's and boys' board shorts that we carry in our stores.  Quiksilver also uses this process in its men's swimsuits as well as Roxy women's board shorts, no matter which style you choose.

In addition to using REPREVE in all its jerseys, Quintsoul360 also donates 1% of its sales to a foundation that protects the oceans.  So, every time you buy one from Sports Experts, you also donate to this foundation.   At Billabong, REPREVE is used in all its swimsuits.

In the same vein, the RipCURL brand uses the Econyl process, which is a manufacture of nylon fibre made from recycled materials in certain jersey models.

And if it's a bag you're looking for, Parkland's bags made from recycled bottles offer a wide variety of styles to suit all tastes.

Vegan and synthetic leather

Other brands are more interested in the raw material. For example, Keen offers vegan leather products. It is important to understand that vegan leather is not real leather and that it is produced in an environment with eco-friendly products/processes. The use of synthetic down and the purchase of local products also come into play.  Lole is the most obvious example offering synthetic down in their products.

Several initiatives

Many companies even go beyond recovery.  Their eco-consciousness also consists in encouraging their employees to implement it in their offices, in production, just as Keen does through the global People's Eco Challenge. This encourages employees to include eco-responsible behaviours in their daily lives. University of Waterloo students studying an environment-related field also obtain scholarships to pursue their education.

Eco-consciousness is very much a part of today's society. It serves its purpose and brands are more than likely to adapt to it. It is therefore with great pride that Sports Experts is able to offer you these eco-responsible products in order to make tomorrow's world a better place.

There is no longer any need to choose between a better performance versus a better planet. Stop by Sports Experts.
