5 tips for eating outdoors without freezing (+our vegetable broth)
Outdoor sports will be very different this year. With restricted or even no access to the chalets, the possibility of warming up at dinner time is likely to be very limited.
But there's no need to give up your favourite activities! You simply need to prepare ahead to fully enjoy yourself (and even make it a magical experience!).
Here are my top 5 tips for eating outdoors without freezing:
No1. Have a good quality insulated container.
Be it for a meal (like our vegetable broth) or a hot beverage (coffee, tea, herbal tea, chocolate milk, etc.), this culinary tool is essential! It's convenient because it doesn't take up too much space. So, you can slip it into a backpack and set off for the day without worrying about what to eat.

No2. Be the proud owner of a portable stove.
Nowadays, portable stoves are versatile and light to carry and allow you to reheat a meal on site, during or after your activities. You can take it with you on a trip of one day or more, depending on the model. If you don't want to be overloaded, you can also leave your container of broth and your stove in the car and come back later when it's time for a break. It's going to be warm!

No3. Warm up your hands.
When you take a break to eat, you quickly feel the cold. If your take off your gloves or mitts, your hands will soon feel the cold during your lunch break. That's why it's a good idea to carry a camping mug made of conductive metal. When you pour the hot broth into it, your hands will be warm too! And don't forget to change your mitts after lunch!

No4. Eat while protected from the wind.
The wind chill, without a doubt, is not something too pleasant. Therefore, you need to find a place sheltered from the wind to eat. Two good places to get away from the wind are in the forest near a tree or in your car.
No5. Take your sleeping bag or blanket with you in the car.
There is probably nothing more comfortable than wrapping yourself up in a blanket in a cozy spot when you finish your activity to drink your broth. Slip a sleeping bag or a few blankets and a pair of fluffy boots into the trunk of your car. Blankets made of wool or duvet are an excellent choice. You can even use the trick of warming up your blankets in the dryer before you leave and then put them in a cooler (Why not! A cooler can also conserve heat).

Vegetable broth
Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 25 minutes
Portions: 4
Ingredients
2 Tbsp olive oil (30ml)
1 red onion , brunoise cut*
1 large carrot, peeled and brunoise cut
1 celery stalk, brunoise cut
1 tin beef broth (900ml)
1 cup red or port wine (250ml)
2-3 sprigs of fresh thyme
1 bay leaf
125 g spaghettini, broken into small pieces**
Pepper and salt
Fresh bread or croutons
Preparation
Fry the vegetables in oil in a large saucepan for 5 minutes. Add the beef broth, red wine and herbs.
Cover then boil and simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. Add the pasta. Simmer 8 minutes. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
Serve in a cup, with pieces of fresh bread or croutons.

*Brunoise is a cutting technique used to obtain very small cubes of vegetables.
